Antoniazzo\u00a0Romano (Rome\u00a01435\/40 &#8211;\u00a01508)\u00a0was\u00a0a central figure\u00a0of the italian Renaissance.\u00a0He was active\u00a0for nearly half a century,\u00a0until the first decade\u00a0of the sixteenth century,\u00a0in Rome and the Lazio region.\u00a0The painter\u00a0was a contemporary\u00a0of Benozzo\u00a0Gozzoli,\u00a0Piero della\u00a0Francesca\u00a0and Domenico\u00a0Ghirlandaio,\u00a0all of them influential in his formation as an artist.\u00a0With\u00a0Melozzo da\u00a0Forli,\u00a0Piermatteo d\u2019Amelia\u00a0and Perugino he also shared\u00a0important commissions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>His works\u00a0consist of\u00a0altarpieces,\u00a0paintings\u00a0and\u00a0decorative cycles\u00a0of devotion.\u00a0The predilection\u00a0for religious subjects\u00a0depends on the fact\u00a0that they were intended\u00a0for\u00a0an audience\u00a0composed mainly\u00a0of senior prelates\u00a0of the Roman Curia,\u00a0religious communities\u00a0and members of the\u00a0noble\u00a0classes.\u00a0Besides the\u00a0subjects represented, what really strikes our attention about this author is the sophisticated\u00a0language\u00a0of his painting.\u00a0His works, in fact,\u00a0combine\u00a0the splendors\u00a0of medieval time together with the Renaissance innovations. In other words, he takes famous\u00a0medieval icons\u00a0and\u00a0he revises\u00a0them with the Renaissance style.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some\u00a0examples of painting\u00a0by Antoniazzo\u00a0and his school \u2013 he was indeed entrepreneur\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0busy and\u00a0industrious workshop,\u00a0for several decades \u2013 can be found in many historical buildings\u00a0in Rome.
