It was hanging on the gallery window, as part of a group show inspired to the life of Saint Francis from Assisi, a show that attracted us since Francis&#8217; life has inspired very conceptual artists such as Giotto (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conceptualfinearts.com\/cfa\/2015\/09\/16\/interview-nicolas-party-who-meets-giotto-before-his-solo-at-kaufman-repetto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"here is how Nicolas Party is looking at the master (opens in a new tab)\">here is how Nicolas Party is looking at the master<\/a>), or El Greco. Effectively Lee&#8217;s work &#8211; and his art practice as well &#8211; has nothing in common with the 14<sup>th<\/sup> or 17<sup>th<\/sup> century painting, nevertheless it deserves attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conceptualfinearts.com\/cfa\/CFA-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/DSCN7594.jpg\" alt=\"Jason Matthew Lee\" class=\"wp-image-8339\"\/><figcaption>Jason Matthew Lee, The hacker perspective, 2014. Recto.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the pieces presented in occasion of the first artist&#8217;s main solo show \u2013 &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/marbriers4.ch\/project\/jason-matthew-lee-zero-lenna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ZERO\/Lenna<\/a>&#8221; at Marbiers 4, in Geneva, a gallery that has recently hosted also the first solo show of another emerging artist who apparently is doing well, Yoan Mudry \u2013 Lee&#8217;s canvas at Fluxia is referred to computer and technology culture. The work&#8217;s title, \u201chackers perspective\u201d, is printed 9 times on the verso of the canvas, along with a second writing, \u201cJML 2014\u201d, the artist&#8217;s signature, and that is welcoming the visitors of the show since the canvas is placed just beside the gallery&#8217;s entrance. On the recto, once you are \u201cinside\u201d the room, the detail you immediately notice is the metallic drops here and there on the black and white multi layered surface, bearing unreadable printed writings probably coming from an internet page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conceptualfinearts.com\/cfa\/CFA-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/DSCN7598.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8340\"\/><figcaption>Jason Matthew Lee, The hacker perspective, 2014. Verso.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The double face strategy makes the canvas working as an object, more than as a simple flat surface, turning it into a metaphoric device. Thanks to the metallic stains, for example, it could resemble a memory card, or a kind of processor to be inserted somewhere to trick, or better to hack, the \u201cofficial\u201d system. And that probably is the meaning of placing it in such an unconventional way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conceptualfinearts.com\/cfa\/CFA-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/DSCN75974.jpg\" alt=\"Jason Matthew Lee\" class=\"wp-image-8341\"\/><figcaption>Jason Matthew Lee, The hacker perspective, 2014. Detail.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Internet doesn&#8217;t say much about Jason Matthew Lee or his work. So it could be useful in this case to trace his recent activity, starting from Tanya Leighton, where in summer 2013 he was included in a group show titled <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tanyaleighton.com\/index.php?pageId=551\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cDay before this place\u201d<\/a>, curated by Tara Dows. Then the solo at Marbries 4 came, in January 2014. Two months later he organized with<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonalexander.biz\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Alexander Shulan<\/a>\u00a0the group show opening the new <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.shootthelobster.com\/exhibitions\/grand_opening.html\" target=\"_blank\">Shoot the lobster project<\/a>, and then some canvases by Jason Matthew Lee appeared at NADA NY, in Tomorrow Gallery&#8217;s booth. At the same time Jason Matthew Lee was taking part to \u201c<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.galeriecrevecoeur.com\/exhibitions\/There-Is-Nothing-Personal\/\" target=\"_blank\">There is nothing personal of yours to exhibit<\/a>\u201d, in Paris, at Galerie Cr\u00e8vecoeur, and to \u201c<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bortolamigallery.com\/past\/bloomington-mall-of-america-north-side-food-court-across-from-burger-king-the-bank-of-payphones-that-dont-take-incoming-calls\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blooming: mall of America, north side food court, across from Burger King &amp; the bank of payphones that don&#8217;t take incoming calls<\/a>\u201d, at Bortolami. In June 2014 Jason Matthew Lee made another interesting group show at Cory Nielsen, \u201c<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/croynielsen.de\/CN_from_whose_ground_heaven_and_hell_compare_2014.html\" target=\"_blank\">From whose ground heaven and hell compare<\/a>\u201d, organized by Ben Schumacher. And finally came the show Fluxia,\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fluxiagallery.com\/current\/trust-vita-vel-regula\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Trust (Vita Vel Regula)<\/a>&#8220;.
