Ed Fornieles: an exaggerated software makes the artwork moving too slow

The two neat pieces by Ed Fornieles, recently appeared on Carlos/Ishikawa’s web site – currently the only artworks from 2014 – could announce a step forward in the artist’s work. Probably his interests in medieval environment (2010, Crisp Gallery), college students’ wild parties, communication via Facebook and fake benefit galas (2013, New Museum), are facing new fields of information. What? It’s not easy to say, but his upcoming solo show at Chisenhale Gallery could make it clear.

In the meantime, a quick research told us that the title of the black and white fiberglass shell – so similar to a gigantic painted nail – addresses to the notorious production and DJ group called The Bangerz. PRiSM is the title of a successful stage show they composed in collaboration with the Jabbawockeez in 2013 in Las Vegas. Unfortunately the title of the other gigantic nail – Night Vision (Prism series) – just takes you in no man’s land. That is the problem with Forniele’s art practice: most of the time the sources overwhelm the piece, but when you don’t find the former you are very likely to get lost.
