Would you say that this is a museum’s room? Welcome to the Galleria Rizzi in Sestri Levante, Italy

Perhaps the art collection preserved in Galleria Rizzi, in Sestri Levante, is not as substantial as the ones in the leading urban museums. But certainly entering this unconventional residence is a rare opportunity and an extraordinary experience. Here the visitor won’t find masterpieces or artworks signed by big Renaissance’s names. As a matter of fact, the so famous Madonna dal Collo Lungo is just a very good 19th century copy from Parmigianino, or the Luca Giordano’s piece can’t be considered one of the most outstanding works of the artist. However, what a great pleasure is walking through the rooms of this mild bourgeoise palace, grasping truthful fragments of the atmosphere where the lawyer Marcello Rizzi used to live. What an unique chance to look at the bay from the very same perspective that Rizzi had while wondering about him. That is indeed the real masterpiece here preserved! Then you will notice the two important chests of drawers by Giuseppe Maggiolini, or the couple of still lifes by Felice Boselli, and also the collection of ceramics from Albissola will seem to you an unmissable treasure.

According to the will of Rizzi, the collection was to be opened to the public after his death, in 1967. More than 50 years after the palace welcomed visitors for the first time, this galleria is still a real gem, often unknown to the many tourists who in summer time populate the narrow strip of sand in front of it.
