In preparation for the 27th Biennale des Antiquaires at the Grand Palais

 

The main reason why an art collector or lover should visit the Biennale des Antiquaires – in Paris from the next Thursday until 21^st September – is that it is the only antiques and fine arts fair where the artworks can be seen in the daylight. Built in Occasion of the Universal Exhibition of 1900 under the direction of four different architects, the Grand Palais will effectively allow the 77 galleries selected for this 27^th edition to benefit of an extraordinary pleasant lighting.

 

The 1944 born eclectic French interior designer Jacques Grange, beloved by renowned costumers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Francois Pinault and Alain Ducasse, has been chosen by the fair director’s Hervé Aaron to design the exhibition’s setting. Grange has declared to take inspiration from the Versailles’ garden and its gardeners, therefore a magnificent use of plants and flowers is expected.

 

In the meantime, even if the Biennale des Antiquaires’ web site desperately needs to be improved, their app is already available for downloading, and along with the basic infos about the fair (dates, exhibitor’s location and restaurants details) it also provides a previews of the pieces that will be for sale. Among them, the extraordinary “Study for self portrait” by Francis Bacon at Dominique Levy and the conceptual Antonio Vivarini’s at Moretti Fine Art deserve to be mentioned . How will they look like in the sunny days expected for this coming week?
