Andrea Previtali: beyond the religious matter his masterpiece blossoms with subjects

There is a particular artist whom we would like to draw your attention to, that is Andrea Previtali (Berbenno, c. 1480 – Bergamo, 1528), a painter from the area of Bergamo and present in Venice in the sixteenth century. His “Annunciation” is a work constructed as a mise en abyme, a kind of game of Chinese boxes, where the extreme attention to every detail makes it impossible to determine who is the true protagonist of the painting: the Madonna? The announcing angel? Or perhaps the objects, the architecture, or rather the landscape?

The masterpiece can be in the Church of Santa Maria Annunziata in Meschio (Vittorio Veneto, Treviso), while other pieces by Previatali will be on display from 1 March until 8 June at Palazzo Sarcinelli, Conegliano (Veneto) as part of the exhibition titled “A restless sixteenth century”. Famous and lesser known artists will also be shown: Cima da Conegliano, Francesco Beccaruzzi, Marco Basaiti, Ludovico Fiumicelli, Sebastiano Florigerio, Paris Bordon, Giovanni Antonio Pordenone, Francesco da Milano, Giovanni Agostino da Lodi, Antonio Solario, Palma il Vecchio, Giovanni e Bernardino da Asola, Girolamo Denti, Giampietro Silvio, Pomponio Amalteo, Riccardo Perucolo.
