Napoleon’s dream: a step forward to its revival in Abu Dhabi

While Paris will be soon enriched with the new Fondation Louis Vuitton’s building, another French driven museum is almost ready to change the art landscape. The Abu Dhabi’s Tourist Development & Investment Company announced yesterday that the iconic dome of the upcoming Louvre Abu Dhabi, in the Saadiyat Cultural District, is now under construction and the museum will open to the public in 2015. The dome will have a diameter of 180 meters, employing 10.800 steel pipes to complete its 85 segments. More than one hundred temporary towers are going to be built just to support the structure.

French architect Jean Nouvel has designed a museum with 9200 squared meters of galleries, one third of which will be dedicated to the permanent collection. The Abu Dhabi cultural authority board conceived it as an universal history of arts and civilization, inspired by the Louvre in Paris, or the Metropolitan Museum in new York.
